What Does It Do?

The Form Auto Save Web Part prevents the loss of data resulting from the web server session timing out before the form is submitted. When working with complex data entry forms in SharePoint, you can lose data you enter if you forget to periodically save your work. The Form Auto Save Web Part automatically saves your data for you based on a configurable time interval.

How Does It Work?

When an edit or new form is loaded, the Web Part starts a countdown timer and displays the time until the data is saved on the status bar of the form browser window. When the configured time has elapsed, the Web Part cycles through each element on the form and automatically saves data to the list, preventing any information from being lost. Use Microsoft Office FrontPage® or Microsoft Office SharePoint® Designer 2007 to insert this Web Part onto a New form or an Edit form.

Why Did We Build It?

Today, SharePoint does not prompt you to save data in complex forms prior to the web session timing out. Losing your data and having to re-enter it wastes time and increases frustration. The Form Auto Save Web Part ensures that your data is always saved allowing you to focus on your business data rather than the technology.
