What's New in 3.0?

The following is a list of the major enhancements made to the Password Change Web Part.

  • Enhanced the security of the Web Part by eliminating the need for administrator credentials to make the password change on the back end.
  • Added the ability to restrict the user to changing their password only in the domain specified in the Web Part Properties.
  • Enabled Administrators to customize the display of their Password Policy helper text to the end user.

How Does It Work?

When a user accesses a page where the Bamboo Password Change Web Part is configured, the Web Part automatically detects the users' user name and domain (unless a domain has already been specified in the Web Part Properties). The user then enters their old password, the new password and a confirmation of the new password and then clicks Change Password. The Web Part verifies the new password and then submits the change. If the current password is incorrect or the new password does not meet the password policy criteria in place at your site, the user receives and error message.

Why Did We Build It?

SharePoint allows you to use ADS or local NT users created on the SharePoint server to manage access authorization; however it does not provide a method for users to change their Active Directory or local NT user account password.
